MTN Sudan has partnered with Al Balad Bank to launch a new mobile banking service, “Baladna Bebasata,” enabling customers to access banking services without an internet connection or smartphone.
The service was officially launched at Al Salam Hotel in Khartoum, coinciding with Al Balad Bank’s resumption of operations in the capital. MTN Sudan serves as the technology partner and service provider, supplying the infrastructure required to deliver banking transactions through USSD technology.
The launch ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture, Information, Antiquities and Tourism Khalid Al-Aiser, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan Dr. Sami Abdelhafiz, Al Balad Bank Chairman Osman Al-Amin Al-Sheikh, and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Idris Al-Abbas, alongside senior banking officials and representatives of MTN Sudan.

The new service allows Al Balad Bank customers using MTN Sudan’s network to access their accounts, transfer funds and conduct essential banking transactions directly through their mobile phones. By operating without internet connectivity, the service is expected to improve access to financial services, particularly in areas with limited digital infrastructure.
Sami Abdullah Obeid, representing MTN Sudan’s General Manager, highlighted the importance of USSD technology in expanding mobile banking accessibility. He said the company would continue working with financial institutions to develop practical digital solutions and improve service delivery.
Al Balad Bank CEO Abdullah Idris Al-Abbas welcomed the partnership, emphasising the role of cooperation between telecommunications operators and financial institutions in expanding banking services.
The launch represents another development in Sudan’s digital banking sector, as financial institutions and telecommunications companies introduce alternative channels for customers to access essential financial services.
